Very first attempt at the classic crochet pattern known as the granny square. Kind of clumsy but a first success. Yay!

This gorgeous persimmon tree, so laden with fruit is a beautiful sight to behold and a wonderful anchor in our life here. To see so much fruit when there is not a leaf in sight… And to see the birds flitting about each morning, stuffing themselves full of sweet nutmegy orange goodness is a really rich and festive thing.

One of the things that defines that parental home for me - the strong lines of the trellis and the assortment of little plants in reused pots, jars and broken coffee mugs. A little island of coolness and serenity in a crazy chaotic city

As summer begins to end, and Fall begins to begin, I’m thinking back to spring, when we first arrived here. And one marker of that beautiful season in my memory (besides the incredibly bright green leaves) is the heady fragrance of these beautiful red roses that our host would keep in our room. It was like living inside a bottle of Yardley!

Is it possible to miss something as ubiquitous as IKEA furniture?
I really wish I had these lovely elegant chairs and the simple pine table in my kitchen now. Of course I can go buy them at the local IKEA store, but can I reclaim that context and  that scale to embed them in? Sadly not…sighhhh….

People-watching in Downtown San Jose. We weren’t sure what the procession was, since everyone was wearing black, until we saw the bride in white….

This public restroom in a really cute bookstore in Sunnyvale,CA had no hook to hang my new bag - so I set it upon the only suitable surface there. Which turned out to be perfectly colour co-ordinated to show off its awesomeness :)
